John Kim is a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University
and currently teaches in the department of Media Studies at the University
of San Francisco. Before entering graduate school, John was a practicing
interactive media artist, and he continues to teach classes in digital
media practice. His dissertation research is on recent free trade agreements
and the status of culture within them. He focuses, in particular, on
modes of resistance to the liberalization of the trade in culture on
the basis of a set of ideas about culture's value beyond the commercial.
